Handmade Lokta Journals, Paper & Cards from Nepal

· Blog, Journals

Every page in these journals, papers and cards is handmade in Nepal from the inner bark of the lokta bush, following a tradition that goes back about a thousand years. With gift season on its way, here are a few of our favorites: a leather journal for the trail, slim notebooks for every day, paper for the printer and cards for the holidays.

Heritage Deluxe Edition

The Everest Explorer Heritage Leather Journal

Water buffalo leather, vegetable-tanned with black walnut husks, wrapped around 96 deckle-edged pages of our thickest lokta. The 200 gsm Heritage Deluxe paper is made by the washi (Japanese paper) method, so both sides of every page are smooth, and a leather tie strap keeps it closed on the trail. Gel pens work great on it.

The Companion Deluxe Floral Notebooks

A slim softcover printed with a flower and the word “Notes,” around 24 pages of the same 200 gsm Heritage Deluxe lokta: thick enough to help with ghosting and bleed, and smooth on both sides. The A5 is a slim composition notebook for the desk; the 4 × 6 Pocket goes in a bag or a jacket.
