Paper Like No Other

How Our Cotton Paper Is Made

Made from tree-free, upcycled materials: surplus trimmings from new cotton garment manufacturing become a tough, naturally acid-free and archival 100% cotton-rag paper.

1

From clippings to pulp

Clippings from nearby garment factories are cleaned and cut into fine fibers. When combined with water, a pulp is formed.

Rows of freshly made cotton sheets hung on lines to dry at the mill

2

Formed by hand, hung to dry

The pulp is carefully spread by hand across boxed screens, causing the fibers to interlock, forming an exceptionally strong and cohesive paper. The sheets are pressed together to expel the water and then hung to dry individually.

3

Pressed smooth, edges kept

Once dry, the sheets are rolled by hand through the giant rollers of the calender machine, where the natural bumps of handmade paper are gently smoothed. The cold press process creates a premium paper that still retains a beautiful texture and “tooth.”
